Hotel owner engages CS as trial counsel for retrial of $10M fraud case

June 9, 2009

A Houston-based hotel owner and operator today engaged Camara & Sibley as trial counsel for the retrial of a fraud claim brought by a former partner in the business.

At the prior trial, before we became involved, the jury returned a verdict of $10,900,000 against our client. After the verdict, our client retained appellate specialists to handle post-verdict motions. As a result of these motions, the judge set aside the verdict and ordered a new trial. Our client then engaged us as trial counsel for the new trial later this year.

This engagement continues a string of recent engagements in which clients, most of them new, have asked Camara & Sibley to step in as counsel on the eve of trial or after an adverse verdict. Although an earlier engagement is always best, we are often able to substantially improve a client’s litigation position even very late in the litigation process.

Joe Sibley will serve as lead trial counsel.
